Bihu, Festival

Hornbill festival, Nagaland

This festival is attended by all major tribes in Nagaland. It begins from 1st of December every year. Sanga Chelling Monastery: Built in the year 1697, Sanga chelling means 'the island of esoteric teaching'. It is the oldest monastery of Sikkim.

Dubdi Monastery: Dubdi monastery was built in 1700 and it is located near Yuksum on a hill top. Tourists need to travel on their foot and enjoy the tour.

Ralong Monastery: It is located in near Rabongla in South Sikkim.

Monasteries of Arunachal Pradesh

Tawang Monastery: Situated at a distance of approximately 183 km from Bomdila, the monastery is at an altitude of approximately 10,000 ft. It is one of the oldest monasteries of India and widely known as the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama.

Bomdila Monastery: Dates back to the year 1965, this Bomdila Monastery was built. It was inspired from the Tsona Gonste Monastery which is located in South Tibet. Some additions were made including the prayer hall in the existing monastery of Bomdila.

Urgelling Monastery: It is widely popular as the birthplace of sixth Dalai Lama. It is easily accessible as it is located at a distance of 5km from Tawang town. It was beautifully surrounded with picturesque Tawang-Chu valley and mighty Himalayas. It was established by Lama Urgen Sangpo as a Buddhist spiritual centre.
